While on my visit to Chicago, IL I stopped in on a black owned restaurant called Pearl’s Place. The restaurant is pretty well known in the area, most notably for their great service, and southern style cuisine. However, this was my first time dining there. My first impression of the restaurant was that, inside was much bigger than I thought it would be, it was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. A big bonus is their BYOB (bring your own bottle) policy, which allowed my friends and I to have mimosas as we awaited our dishes.
On to the food, to say the least it was delicious. When you arrive to your table, they bring out cornbread and biscuits. I was not the biggest fan of either, but my friends really enjoyed them. We skipped appetizers and ordered our main courses; I ordered the jerk chicken with red beans and rice, and mac and cheese. The food was so well seasoned that I did not even reach for the salt and pepper. The chicken was moist and flavorful with a kick of heat, the macaroni was cheesy, and the red beans and rice was cooked perfectly. Long story short, I really enjoyed my meal. My friends ordered the catfish nuggets and the seafood platter. Of course I took a little nibble of theirs, again I was pleased with the food; and they both really enjoyed their meals as much as I did mine. The service was excellent. Being it was our first time, we were a little indecisive when ordering, yet our waiter was very attentive, patient, and knowledgeable of the menu. He answered all of our questions, came around to check on us, and brought the food to our table relatively quickly. Depending on what you order, your meal can end up being a bit pricey; still, I would say that the restaurant is quite affordable.
All in all, I would definitely recommend Pearl’s Place to anybody visiting the city, or anyone who lives in town but hasn’t been. I plan on trying their breakfast and buffet options on my next visit. Be sure to check them out, all info is listed below!
