6) Know yourself, and stay true to yourself.
This was probably the biggest lesson I had to learn. Before Who Are We, there was No Shade No Tea. Needless to say, NSNT did not last very long, mainly because the content and premise of it was not who I am, but what I saw was working for others.
“Know who you are, because you can get lost. If you see somebody else doing something and its trending…just because it’s working for them doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you.” Kim A.
It is important to be authentically yourself. You may see other people and think “goals”. Wishing you could be like them, look like them, have the things they have, etc. The truth is you can become your own goals. You just have to know you, love you, and work for you. It is easy to emulate the next big thing. However, “the next big thing” became just that, because they were staying true to themselves. Being yourself and pushing yourself to the next level is difficult, because at times you will feel exposed and open to criticism.
“What other people think of you is not your business.”
Be your biggest fan, and your biggest critic. You cannot let others dictate how your business will grow or how you will grow as a person. Who, what, and the energy you allow into your space can harm you or help you. It all starts and ends with you. You can’t forget who you are, why you started, or where you want to go.
Thank you for tuning in week after week for the 6 Lessons series! Should I do more posts like this? Let me know what you guys think!
