I received a question asking me if I had seen the Hurt Bae 2 video and my reaction, and figured I’d make a post about it since my response would be a little lengthy. For those of you who don’t know what "Hurt Bae" is, it was a video that went viral sometime last year,(links to both videos below). There was 2 individuals a man and a woman (Leonard and Kourtney) who had previously been in a relationship together. They briefly discussed their relationship, and infidelity. The woman was obviously saddened by the conversation while the man seemed to be unbothered.
After the video aired the internet crowned Kourtney “Hurt Bae”. Viewers and trolls alike rallied behind her because she was beautiful and appeared to have been played and treated poorly by a young thoughtless male. The internet deemed Leonard as a villain, and quite frankly, stupid for treating such a beautiful woman so badly. In the 2nd video, which was released last week, they take a look back at how the video affected their lives.
I'm confused as to why this video even took place. This first video...understandable, Kourtney was looking for "closure" or rekindling and Leonard was clearly trying to tell her to move on. They both gained a pretty good social network following, and I'm sure both have received some great opportunities. This is exactly where "Hurt Bae" should have ended. I'm not surprised by Leonard's responses and attitude in the 2nd video. In the 1st one we saw he didn't seem to have remorse, nor did he seem apologetic.
I honestly felt bad for Kourtney after the 1st video, however, THIS video? I don't feel bad for her at all. My point is after the 1st video there wasn't a need for more conversation. He disrespected her, he apologized and he explained that the relationship was over, and thought this conversation was a sign of them both being able to move on. They seemingly both agreed to remain friends, and he wished her the best. But in the 2nd video it is like she keeps going after somebody who has made it perfectly clear that he did not want to be with her.
She should have taken THAT closure and ran with it. She's in a new relationship, he's in a new relationship, why is she still letting herself be hurt by somebody who has shown time and time again, that he doesn't care about her? Others are upset with Leonard because of his reactions in the 2nd video, but all he did was take that time as an opportunity for revenge since the internet community had judged and attacked him. He obviously felt embarrassed, which of course, he blames her for. I'm not saying that it is right; what I am saying is that it was to be expected. He felt like he was set up, so in this video he was going for the jugular at every chance given to him. Leonard has already demonstrated his poor character in follow up interviews and posts after the 1st video. There was no reason to believe that he was going to come into this video with sunshine and rainbows.
In my last post I wrote about the closure that I was (and wasn't) seeking. After that experience I learned that you don't need closure in somebody else, you find it in yourself. These 2 videos are the perfect example of not seeking closure in the same person that destroyed you. Leonard was an a%#h*le before the videos and was even more of one in the 2nd video. Kourtney was a "victim" in the 1st video and in the 2nd, in my opinion, she's a glutton for punishment, and appears as a woman who lacks self-esteem and self-love. She definitely was not somebody that needed saving, she put herself in this situation, AGAIN! Kourtney tries to make him see that she was being a good person because she did not let people say bad things about him to her. She would deflect and say that Leonard was indeed a good person. You have to ask yourself why does she care about how others perceive him for what he actually did. He cheated on her, multiple times, and she's even caught him in the act. So yes, he comes off as a scumbag, but that's not Kourtney's fault. She clearly still has feelings for this man, new relationship or not. Maybe this video was an excuse for her to speak to him again, or she needed more viral attention? I'm not naive to the fact that maybe the video creators asked for a 2nd dialogue, but the answer should have been "no" from both Kourtney and Leonard. Either way, I believe that this video was a sad and unnecessary move, all it did was hurt her even more.
