Born Elizabeth Elie on July 30th, 1991, raised in one of the toughest cities in the U.S., Chicago, IL, Lizzie G has certainly changed the stereotype. To say that she is a unique talent, is an under statement, as she does something most rappers usually don’t do. With her positive lyrics, Lizzie G focuses her music on more than just dance worthy tunes.
As her tag says, “Educated Female Rapper from Chicago”, this young phenom has earned two degrees, one from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelors in Composition and New Computer Music and a second from Roosevelt University with a Masters Degree in Integrated Marketing Communication. At the early age of 11 years old, she knew she was destined to have a booming musical career. The young Elizabeth Elie started mixing beats, and eventually began to add her own creative lyrics to them, thus Lizzie G was born.
Her 1st album, “Tha Queen Lizzie G” was released in 2007, where one of her hit singles, “L’s Up” debuted. This particular track holds a special place in her heart as it shows appreciation to all of her fans and supporters. On her 2nd album (2010) “The Take Ova”, Lizzie decided to go in a bit of a different direction. Upping the beats and making plenty of dance hits, this album got people up and moving. Just last year (2015) Lizzie released her 3rd album called “Make it Happen”. While her other two albums were great, this album is mostly noted for its encouragement to the youth. Messages of staying in school and following your dreams ring throughout this 14 track tape.
Not only does she rap, but she is also active within the community. Lizzie G partakes in a number of mentorship and entrepreneurship programs. Taking her time and visiting the youth of Chicago to not only give them advice, but to help them realize and achieve their dreams. Her 3-week summer entrepreneurship program is coming to a close, however the incoming freshmen in Chicago have gained knowledge on subjects, such as: creative writing, resume building, branding and much more.
Lizzie G’s music contains a message most rappers and entertainers lack. The motivational themes within her lyrics are more than just note worthy. At a time where black children may be feeling like they have no hope, Lizzie G’s music is sure to inspire them.
